چکیده

In hospitals, Acinetobacter baumannii is considered one of the major pathogens due to its antibiotic and antiseptic resistance capacity thus it persists in a stressed environment leads nosocomial infections. Its persistence influenced by biofilm development. This study looked at 60 A. isolates from four Iraqi hospitals. A significant distribution biofilm-forming characteristics was identified among obtained several hospitals this research. They determined sensitivity pattern towards 13 different antibiotics (Imipenem, Meropenem, Colistin Sulfate, Doripenem, Ceftazidime, Cefepime, Cefiderocol, Amikacin, Levofloxacin, Tobramycin, Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, Piperacillin). The frequency multidrug (MDR) found be 58.3 % tested strains, while extensively drug (XDR) 31.6 %. 100% clinical could form biofilms, with 6.6 having weak formation ability, 86.6 moderate %having high capacity.

Biofilm Formation and β-lactamase Enzymes: A Synergism Activity in Acinetobacter baumannii Isolated from Wound Infection

Background and Objective: Biofilm formation plays a crucial role in wound infections and increases the bacteria resistance to treatment. The present study investigated the relationship between the biofilm formation, ESBL, AmpC, and KPC enzymes in Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from the wound specimens. Materials and Methods: Eighty- nine A. baumannii isolates were collected from wound specim...

CLSI based antibiogram profile and the detection of MDR and XDR strains of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from urine samples

Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is an emerging nosocomial pathogen causing serious complications due to the propensity of its multi-drug resistant property. Due to the indiscriminate and wide-spread use of antibiotics, A. baumannii strains emerge as MDR-Ab, XDR-Ab and in recent years pan-DR-Ab strains. Routine therapy incorporates the application of fewer antibiotics and antibiotic surveill...

Molecular Analysis and Expression of bap Gene in Biofilm-Forming Multi-Drug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii

Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is commonly resistant to nearly all antibiotics due to presence of antibiotic resistance genes and biofilm formation. In this study we determined the presence of certain antibiotic-resistance genes associated with biofilm production and the influence of low iron concentration on expression of the biofilm-associated protein gene (bap) in development of biofilm...

Molecular Analysis of the Isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from Tehran Hospitals Using ERIC-PCR Method

Background and Objective: Acinetobacter is a genus of non-fermenting Gram-negative cocci or coccobacilli, which have low nutritional requirements for growth and can survive for a long time in adverse conditions, on dry surfaces, and also in aqueous environments. The importance of the members of Acinetobacter genus as pathogens involved in nosocomial infections, is increasing. Acinetobacter baum...

Drug Resistance Patterns and Genotyping of Acinetobacter baumannii Strains Isolated from Patients Admitted to Shahrekord Teaching Hospitals Using REP-PCR

Background & objectives: In recent years, Acinetobacter baumannii has been shown to be associated with several nosocomial infections, including pneumonia, bacteraemia, urinary tract infections, wound infection and meningitis. This organism can survive in the hospital environment and rapidly develops resistance to many antibiotics. The molecular genotyping can increase our knowledge about the sp...
